  Jazz Pianist Dick Morgan
For your special event, please consider hiring Washington's signature jazz pianist, the incomparable Dick Morgan. Year after year, this legendary pianist has energized jazz festivals and clubs all over the world. He has been known to bring audiences to reverent silence with jazz versions of ballads like “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” then excite them minutes later with swinging song renditions reminiscent of Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson.

A consummate gentleman--he has a law degree from Howard University--Mr. Morgan also performs regularly at dances and receptions throughout the Washington area. Still swinging today at age 80, Mr. Morgan is a living link to the history of jazz. As a child in Petersburg, Virginia during the Depression, he amazed adults by showing he could play anything he heard. He landed his first radio show at the age of 10. One night as a teenager he found himself performing for Duke Ellington, who had heard of the young pianist’s talents and came by to offer some encouraging words. Today he performs regularly at the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, and at jazz festivals and cruises.

Mr. Morgan has six current CDs: Make Someone Happy, Spiritual Journey, Spellbound (featuring Etta Jones), Drive, Passion, Unpredictable,

Dick Morgan Live, and After Hours. Julian “Cannonball” Adderly arranged Dick’s first recording contract on the Riverside label, where he was featured on a jazz piano album that included Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans and Billy Taylor. He went on to make his own recordings with Riverside. Mr. Morgan was a favorite of the legendary Tommy Dorsey, and in his 50-year career he has performed with such artists as Joe Williams, Herb Ellis and Charlie Byrd.
